Being There ?'s

1) Did you learn anything from the movie Being There? If you did, what was it? That people can misinterpret something so easy, when it could've been so simple.

2) What is the message of the movie? Do you agree or disagree with it? Life is a state of mind, and I completely agree with this, because life is what you make it, and you should view things positive.

3) Was there something you didn't understand about the film? What was that? The final scene was just a bit confusing because everything leading up to that made sense. It will catch you off guard!

4) What did you like best about the movie? Why? How everyone didn't understand who Chauncy really was because the characters thought he was this smart sophisticated person who spoke in metaphors.

5) What did you like least about the movie? Why? Definitely the scenes with Chauncy and Eve, because it was unnecessary, and Chauncy just sat there watching TV.

6) Who was your least favorite character? Why? Eve, because her character cheated and she was also sometimes dramatic and annoying.

7) What is the tone (mood) of the story?  Optimistic, and Happy. Other sections were dark, and sad because of the deaths occurring.

8) How does the tone help guide the viewers into an sympathetic reaction to the story? To feel sympathy towards Chauncy, because of how disconnected he is.

9) How is the character of "Chauncy Gardener" introduced? What does this tell us (foreshadowing) about what will happen in the story? When he is getting ready in the morning and watching TV the entire time, you would think he is any ordinary person, but you can tell thats not the case. He was very lonely and I think it was foreshadowing that he would meet many people.

10) What comment is the author trying to make about the culture of the characters in the story? An average persons culture was very different from the character culture, because these wealthy people had little problems compared to the viewer. The culture of the characters are very ignorant.

11) The personal qualities of the protagonist (Chauncey G.) are often a part of the lesson to be learned in a film. What are these qualities? Being easy going, simple minded, and be down to earth.

12) Was there anything in the movie that you can relate to our current or recent times? Explain. There wasn't really anything I related to in this movie, but there were many things that related to our current day.

13) What were you thinking as you finished watching the film? A bit confused, especially because of the ending.

14) Would you recommend this movie to a friend? Explain your reasons. I think someone else may like it, maybe some friends may perceive the message like I did, but this movie would be too long for some.

15) What do you think the title of the film, "Being There" refers to? Being in the moment since Chauncy is constantly in the same state of mind.
